My New Phone - LG KS360

So a couple of weeks ago my Sony Ericsson W850i decided to pack itself in. Namely the speaker for phone calls which to meis kind of important. So along with changing my phone I decided to change my phone providers from Vodafone to Orange. As I recieved pretty terrible and lousey customer service with Vodafone.I decided this time to go with a much more up to date phone than what my old was and although even in the updated market my W850i is still more expensive than the KS 360 I actually prefer this one. Sure it doesn’t have 3G and a flash for the camera but it packs ALL the basic needs that a phone is actually needed for.

Within The Last Month

Well it’s been a month since my last post. I haven’t really been keeping this blog up to date with my life and my interests so I think I shall change that now.
As the previous post stated it was my 20th birthday last month. I got a new graphics card, so upgraded from my nVidia Geforce 7600GT to a nVidia Geforce 8800GT. And I must say I can REALLY feel the difference, games such as Crysis and Unreal Tournament III are so good to play and more than just playing are also a joy to watch. Even at one point when I was showing a good friend the graphics within Crysis even she admitted that it’s the kind of game that you can enjoy just watching because it’s so entertaining as a game and visually. However I’m still having a bit of a problem with the resolutions in other games as they seem to be missing out the 1680×1050 resolutions.

5 Reasons Why…..

We wish Racing Games were real.

After playing Need For Speed: Most Wanted the other night I started thinking what if racing games were real.
These are the 5 reasons that I thought would be nice if it were true.

1. Always Green - No matter how much you loose in racing games you never to be less than at least £100 or $100 in cash. And if you ever to run out of money you just regain it by racing some more. Whether it be on the pro circuit or on the street this would help so many people…..ah if only it were true.

2. I Smell Bacon - For some reason don’t know why but in racing games they always make you a bit faster than the police, if this were true we’d all have fun speeding knowing that we’d get away with it and be able to lead a normal life until the next time we have to speed away from the cops. Another thing with car games is as well as being able to speed away from the police is that instead of getting imprisoned for the unlimited amount of violations you can have all that is received is just a slap on the wrist and pay a fine.

Some Day

Just what I’ve always thought to be honest, a former Xbox Europe VP stated that he can see gaming consoles dead within 10-15 years. Truthfully I’ve never got into them, I find that their over priced and by the time you’ve got all the games and stuff for it another model from another manufacturer thats better than what you have got comes out. Its an extremely competitive market and if the consoles don’t make it within in about at least a month that to me kinda tells us whether or not its going to go well for that company; a good example of this is the Sega Dreamcast, it was ahead of it’s time in my view therefore not many people were interested in it so therefore after a few months on the market it was pulled from production. At first I didn’t think the PS3 was going to kick off, but now it turns out due to the death of HD DVD that PS3s have been selling really well lately since it is considered a cheap Blu-Ray player.

Memories/FPS

Was browsing the internet on PC Case Mods and came across this lil beauty. AT first people thought it might have been a prop for a Wolfenstien movie. But once they seen it they found out in fact it was a PC modified to look like a radio from Wolfenstien. I really like the idea behind it, as in my opinion Wolfenstien never gets the real respect it deserves. If you talk to most people going into their early 20’s they always seem to recall Doom as being the first ever first person shooter, but it was actually Castle Wolfenstein.

I always remember growing up playing it on my 600MHz PC, especially the last level with the chain gun. And when Return to Castle Wolfenstein came out I couldn’t believe that it took them so long to come out with a sequel. Its only now in the modern day their releasing new versions of games that I grew up playing, Doom 3 came out a few years ago, RTCW came out before that and soon to be released is the new Duke Nukem game. Now thats an old game which is sooo much fun on a LAN party.
But talking about first person shooters, I had a discussion with my friend earlier on today and I’ve noticed that for some reason I find shoot’em ups are not the games to be played on consoles. They originated on PC’s and thats how I’ve grown up with them; I just feel they aren’t the type of games to be played on a console with a controller.

Thats just my personal opinion

Times Change People Change

Recently I’ve been thinking about the newest laptop from Mac, The Macbook Air. I watched the keynote with Steve Jobs, and the unveiling of the MBA. I admit I was impressed by the size of the laptop but the most impressive thing was the technology behind it and the specs, the fact the 1.6GHz/1.8Ghz Dual Core CPU chip is 60% smaller than a usual CPU chip and the motherboard is no bigger than a wooden pencil with 2GB of RAM. However the were several cutbacks on this laptop, and that is that there isn’t many USB Ports or anything and as expected there is no Optical Drive.
About two days after I had watched all of this I noticed an article on the internet that a member of Digg had posted. And that was that Sony is not even impressed by the MBA. So I decided to read on in the article, turns out in 2004 they released a laptop the Vaio X505 that at the thinnest point of it was 0.3 Inches, where Apple is boasting it’s 0.16 Inches. This means about 4 years ago Sony were already ahead of Apple with the thinnest laptop until now. However the only downside of the X505 is that the specs are far worse than that of the MBA, but that was because the technology and the size of the components aren’t at what today’s standards are. Sony also cutback on the Optical Drive back in 2004 just like Apple have done now but the difference is that in 2004 it wasn’t what the consumers wanted. Now because of USB keys and wireless it’s not as necessary, I’m just starting to wonder when CD’s will be taken out of the picture all together and that all PC Games, Software and Music will be sold on USB keys. I’m also wondering if this is the way gaming consoles are going to go as well.

Another laptop that seems to be making an impact on size and weight is Intel’s Metro, although I have been having difficulty to find it on the the specs of it and how much and when it will be available as it is only a concept at this point. The only information that I know is that it’s got a Core Duo inside it, it’s 1KG in weight and the thinnest point is 0.7 Inches, the wireless notebook also has a feature in which the user can switch between WI-FI, Bluetooth and WiMax with in aerial. The idea behind it is that it is completely wireless for the user, and there is one nice feature of the notebook and that is, even when the laptop is switched off there is a screen on the outside that stays on that lets you check your e-mails, news etc very quickly without having to boot up.
So in the end I’m not convinced by the WBA as of yet seeing as Sony already made a laptop back in 2004 close enough to it’s size but I am convinced by the technology inside it so we’ll just have to wait to see what happens within the next line of laptops from other company’s if they can get their hands on the technology.

PC World Continues To Be “The Worlds Number One In THe PC Retail”……Yea Right

So here’s is another miss judgement YET again by the wonderful PC world. I recently seen the new Apple commercial where it states that PC World had tested many computers with Windows Vista and the result was the fastest laptop to run Windows Vista was the MacBook Pro. This was there to prove that MacBook Pro’s were more compatible with Vista than any other laptop……
Turns out PC World made a little blooper. Turns out this was not the final result as later on they decided to test the Eurocom D900C Phantom; which then turned out to be the fastes laptop to run Vista on it.
But wait here’s the sweet part. PC World has now declared that Vista is the Number 1 with a bullet in their Biggest Tech Disappointments of 2007. Well this is just throwing the people that don’t really know anything about computers completely off the ropes. Their saying one thing and then the next minute going against it.

Personally to me I don’t find Vista that bad; I run it on my laptop and once you know how to disable the annoying secrurity pop-ups it’s just more of a pleasent version of XP. And to be honest I wouldn’t really trust PC World with a ten foot barge poll due to my experience.

GIMMIE GIMMIE!

Ah if only Christmas was sooner; wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one of these (preferably the Zelda one). The gold edition of the DS comes with The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and its very own Signature Logo of Zelda emblazoned on the DS itself….Now that made me cream. These two Special Editions are said to be released on the 23rd of this month, however there is no say on the price yet. But rumours have believe that it will be around $150 (but for the UK I’m guessing it’ll be about £100)

LG’s 47-inch 47LG75 LCD TV

This very nice slim designed is a new Back Lit HD LCD TV soon to relesed by LG. It’s 47inch screen comes with a very nice slim design, 1080p support and built in speakers. However the actual specifications are not yet to be released. However rumour around is that it has a High Contrast Ratio with Automatic Brightness and Colour Optimizing Technologies. If only I weren’t a student I wouldn’t say no to splashing out on one of these babies.

Solar Powered Bluetooth Headset

Personaly to me this does sound like a good idea. But what of us people in Scotland, the most amount of sun we get is about 3 days a year. But overall I’m never too keen on bluetooth headsets. Yes they do give us hands free and is all good for keeping with the law of not driving with your mobile phone but think they should of atleast had some sort of nicer lookin design, like Lee Evans said “it’s like you’ve gone into a battle with a Walrus and lost”. Thats the perfect description I find for them. So for now I’ll keep to my handsfree kit with my Walkman Phone.
